This calculator uses standard emission factors to determine the greenhouse gas emissions of different fossil fuel. These standard emission factors are published by the Ministry for the Environment and represent national averages for the different fuel types. The greenhouse gas emissions are presented as tonnes of CO₂ equivalent (tCO2-e). Standard calorific values of the fossil fuels are used in this calculation.
