In the landfill scenario we determine the transportation cost using a comprehensive spreadsheet model, which takes a number of the relevant economic factors into account. The assumptions behind this model are: diesel $0.89 litre (16/02/2007 medium / large transport operator), truck Cost $200,000, lifetime of 10 years, interest rate 11%, truck only, no trailer - load volume up to 55m³, payload 10 tonnes, $9600 pa in overheads, $18.00 hour for the driver, annual cost of labour $73,000 (this includes, leave, acc, ppe and overtime).
