This calculator is designed to estimate the volume of residual wood left on the landing after a harvest given the amount of logs harvested. Cutover residues are treated here.The volume of residues generally depends on three factors: the harvesting methodology (i.e. ground based or hauler), the log making system,and the quality of the crop. Hauler based harvesting methods tend to leave more residues on the cutover than ground based harvesting. In addition, the higher the quality of the crop the fewer the residues left behind. The following tables shows the percentages of stem and branch as a percentage of the merchantable volume (written as stem% , branch%) for the various options. Ground based:

This data is based on Pinus Radiata plantation harvesting operations in the Central North Island.
