Scion Centennial Suffrage Scholarship

Scion offers its Suffrage Centennial Scholarship annually to promote science as an attractive career option for women. The scholarship is open to senior female students residing in Rotorua and attending secondary school in the Bay of Plenty region. Applicants must be intending to commence an undergraduate course in pure or applied sciences in 2011 that would potentially benefit the forestry or biomaterials industries. The successful candidate receives $2,000 towards tuition fees and an offer of summer vacation work for the duration of her undergraduate studies.

While being top of the class in your current studies would be a bonus, it is not everything in our scholarship. We are looking for someone who can demonstrate a passion for science and a love of life. As well as an excellent academic track record, the successful candidate will have evidence of a range of interests, involvement in their school and wider community and an ambition to succeed in science and research. In return we offer a kick-start to your studies and exciting work experience that will make you stand out from the crowd to future employers.

Created in 1993 as part of New Zealand’s centennial suffrage celebrations, the scholarship has helped many young local girls to date achieve their science ambitions.

2010 applications are not yet open. Please check back here regularly for updates.
