National Forestry Herbarium

The National Forestry Herbarium (NZFRI) is located at Scion, Rotorua, New Zealand.

This herbarium specialises in cultivated tree species associated with forestry and amenity planting, and includes extensive collections of eucalypt and pine species. It also contains a wide range of New Zealand native and naturalised plants, and is the regional herbarium for indigenous and naturalised flora of the Bay of Plenty and central North Island of New Zealand.

It holds over 26 500 catalogued specimens. Data from the whole collection (including photographs of each species) is searchable online.

We encourage anyone to lodge plant specimens which add information to the collection, or voucher research. Specimens should be in good condition, preferably with flowers or fruit, with locality, grid reference, and notes such as whether the plant was naturalised.
