Scion and its partners invite you to a free event designed to help New Zealand’s forest industry get the most out of geographical information systems (GIS).
For many years GIS has been recognised as a fundamental tool for effective forest management. Largely confined to the realm of operational mapping, its value as a tool for economic and business analysis has often been overlooked.
At this conference you will hear from international and New Zealand experts and have a chance to compare experiences with industry colleagues on topics including:
- Global GIS developments and trends
- Successful applications of GIS in New Zealand forestry
- Beyond GIS as you know it – case studies on innovative use of GIS
- The future of GIS technology
Confirmed speakers include:
- Peter Eredics: Forestry Industry Solutions Manager, ESRI, USA
- Professor Cris Brack: Chair of Forestry, Waiariki Institute of Technology
- Mary Sue Severn: Director CRCSI New Zealand, New Zealand Geospatial Office
- Kim Lowell: Professor, Spatial Systems Modelling, Melbourne University/CRCSI Programme Manager
Scion will present on a number of topics including use of advanced GIS tools, and ESRI will outline new features in the recently released ArcGIS v10. A program outline is available HERE.
This event will benefit both forest managers and GIS professionals with a forestry interest.
If you want to learn how you can adapt GIS technologies for positive advantage in your forestry operation, register HERE by completing the online form.
The ATLAS GeoMaster User Group meeting will follow this conference on Thursday 7 October.
Please direct any queries to the event coordinator, Bronwyn Douglas by email or by phone, at 07 343 5624
