Future Forests Research Ltd

Future Forests Research (FFR) was formed in 2007, when the forest industry came together to work in partnership with Scion. The vision for this move was to ensure a prosperous future for New Zealand’s plantation forest industry through innovative and well focused research. FFR’s purpose is to ensure that good decisions form the foundations of successful land and forest management in New Zealand.

Biopolymer Network Ltd

The Biopolymer Network Ltd (BPN) is a unique collaboration that demonstrates the power of scientific partnerships. The BPN research base is built from three of New Zealand’s largest and leading research organisations, AgResearch, Plant & Food Research and Scion. BPN’s mission is to create a focus of scientific and technological excellence in the conversion of sustainable natural resources to biopolymers and biocomposites.

Forest Biosecurity Research Council

The Forest Biosecurity Research Council (FBRC) performs an important role in helping to protect New Zealand’s commercial forestry resources. FBRC is a partnership between forest growers, policy makers and research providers. It provides strategic direction and financial support for science programmes aimed at solving a wide range of biosecurity issues. Scion is a key member of the Council and one of the core research providers.

Radiata Pine Breeding Company Ltd

The Radiata Pine Breeding Company Ltd (RPBC) is a New Zealand company focussed on providing superior radiata pine germplasm to its shareholders and customers in Australasia. The major activity of the company is researching genetic improvement of radiata pine and applying this research to the development of superior genetics, which are made available to shareholders and customers through the GF Plus scheme. Scion is a shareholder in RPBC.

Beacon Pathway Ltd

Beacon Pathway Ltd (Beacon) is working to find affordable, attractive ways to make New Zealand homes more sustainable by changing the design, construction and renovation of New Zealand’s homes and neighbourhoods. Established in May 2004, Beacon is a collaborative research consortium of organisations with a considerable stake in the quality of the residential sector – Scion, Fletcher Building, New Zealand Steel, Waitakere City Council, and BRANZ.
