Marie-Joo Le Guen is a Materials Scientist by training with a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand.

Throughout her career, Dr. Le Guen has been at the forefront of fundamental and applied research in areas such as 3D/4D printing, biopolymer processing, and natural fibre composites. Her work is dedicated to discovering economically viable applications for sustainable materials, aiming to replace petroleum-based products. She has led significant MBIE projects and pioneered Scion's additive manufacturing capabilities in biomaterials.

Dr. Le Guen's contributions have been recognized through various awards and funding, highlighting her impact across the scientific and industrial communities. Notably, her efforts have been acknowledged with the Kudos Hill Laboratories Primary Industries Award, the Callaghan Innovation NZ Hi-Tech Awards with Agrisea, and multiple grants for her leadership in research projects.

A significant aspect of Dr. Le Guen's work includes leading Scion into its first participation in a Horizon Europe research project and establishing an International Associated Laboratory with INRAe in France.
