In 2024, the Scion research programme, Protecting Aotearoa from Wind Dispersed Pests, joined the Taranaki Mounga Project team and local mana whenua for two hui wānanga, sharing mātauranga and science to protect the whenua. These kōrero shaped our “Wind Wanderers” project, which brings biosecurity tools to support Taranaki’s ecosystems.

Future Proofing Forestry

This is a vision for the future of forestry in New Zealand that attempts to solve some of the challenges we face. This harvesting system considers the completed timber products at the time of harvest, and bark and waste remains at the stump - fertilising the soil.
