Scion is renowned around New Zealand and internationally for its innovative research across the forestry, wood product, wood-derived materials and other biomaterial sectors.

In 2025, we are launching a new series to showcase the expertise behind the research – our world class scientists!

Every month we’ll be profiling one of our scientists. We’ll share information about their work, what drives them, their challenges and much more. We hope you’ll enjoy getting to know the people behind our science.

Up first this month is Dr Hayden Thomas, a research chemist who loves variety and plays a key role in Scion’s Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) work.
