Scion Connect - Issue 5

21 August 2023

Welcome to the Issue 5 of Scion Connect, where we delve into some of the ways Scion is helping New Zealand transition to a circular bioeconomy.

In this edition, we present the newest members of the Scion Board: Nicole Anderson, Phil Taylor, and Kiriwaitingi Rei-Russell. Additionally, we extend a warm welcome to our Future Director, Zara Morrison.

We shine the media spotlight on the Scion-led Jobs for Nature team who is on a race against time to propagate cuttings as part of efforts to save vulnerable native species under threat from myrtle rust in the Bay of Plenty. Additionally, we're excited to announce a significant conference in March, where Rotorua will host one of the oldest and most prestigious international organisations in forest research.

Unveil the secrets of identifying pests and diseases that pose a threat to both our planted and indigenous forests in our newly released Scion factsheet and discover what research and smart technologies are offering solutions to growers wanting to create more resilient planted forests.

Listen to Alec Foster from Scion as he unveils how Rotorua is fast becoming a technology hub and an excellent city to forge a career in the realms of science and technology. Also, join us in congratulating forest entomologist Stephanie Sopow for her exceptional contribution to apiculture science.

Scion Connect provides an opportunity for us to share our news and successes more frequently and in a different format to Scion Connections, our magazine.
