Description

Social licence to operate in forestry – insights from regional and small-scale perspectives

The webinar aims to explore how social licence to operate (SLO) is shaped across New Zealand’s forestry sector—from large-scale operations to small-scale farm forestry. Forestry professionals, regional council staff, policy makers, farm forestry owners, sustainability and CSR practitioners, researchers and students are invited to register.

We will present:

  • quantitative framework measuring SLO across nine wood supply regions, focusing on trust, legitimacy, and environmental approval, delivered by Dr. Grace Villamor
  • Narrative insights from small-scale farm forestry owners, highlighting relationships, innovation, and community norms, delivered by Dr. Andrea Grant

Unlike previous public surveys on SLO, this approach offers region-specific metrics and stakeholder-based indicators, providing actionable insights for policy and compliance.

Key questions:

  • Can trust be measured—and what does it reveal about risk?
  • What can large-scale forestry learn from small-scale enterprises?
  • How can SLO metrics inform policy and compliance?
  • What sustains legitimacy in forestry?

We hope you can join us.
